Beginners’ Courses

Swap mindless exercise for mindful practice and the benefits can change your life.

Unlike gruelling trips to the gym which – let’s face it – for most people lose their appeal before the daffodils have even started poking through the soil, our mindful approach can be brought into your daily life and really change it for the better. Here are just a few of the ways in which it can help you be a happier, healthier person in 2017 and beyond..

Start at the very beginning in our small and friendly beginner's courses

We design all of our beginner’s courses to have a gentle and mindful step-by-step approach. They are suitable for anyone regardless of age, gender or fitness ability. We do not expect you to have any prior knowledge and will start with the absolute basics so you won’t feel out of your depth.

Our classes are kept small so that the quality of teaching can remain high and all Body IQ teachers are highly experienced, highly qualified and fully insured. You can relax in the knowledge that your safety and wellbeing is in good hands.

We are currently running courses in our Milton Keynes studio in Somatics, Soma Pilates, Yoga, Meditation and Tai Chi.

Beginner's soma-Pilates > Read more..

Standard Pilates can be a great mind-body exercise which can provide strengthening and toning of the core muscles as well as mental focus and improved mind-body co-ordination. At Body IQ we take Pilates and put the emphasis on mindfulness, We have slown Pilates right down and combined it with ‘somatics’ to make the results even better. Somatics is a more meditative form of exercise which works on a deeper neuro-muscular level and can have incredibly profound results. It is very effective at releasing muscle tension, re-aligning poor posture and relieving chronic pain, so as well as gaining strength and toning, you will feel calmer and able to cope with stress. The perfect mind-body exercise.

Yoga & Mindfulness

Yoga + Mindfulness Course > Read more..

This 6-week course is the perfect place to start even if you have no previous (or very little) experience of yoga. But it will also suit anyone looking to develop a more mindful practice. The emphasis will be on breathing: where it all begins and powerful but subtle yogic techniques to subsequently evoke deep relaxation and state of awareness of your emotions and bodily sensations. The class will include a mindful series of specially chosen yogic postures to both ‘tire’ the body and generate body awareness. Lizzie’s gentle approach will ensure you find this manageable as she will encourage you to work at your own pace. Relaxation and stress relief will follow. You will leave each class with a calm feeling of having been ‘restored’. Over the 6 week period you will see and feel gradual and tangible progression.

Tai chi is a series of slow, harmonised movements which when repeated regularly have great health benefits. In China it is prescribed by doctors as both a remedial and preventative treatment for many ailments from high blood pressure and migraines to stress and memory loss. The sequences are learned through regular repetition and it is this focusing on the sequences that makes tai chi such a mindful exercise. Total focus on your body and the learned patterns in your mind will calm a chattering mind, improve mind-body co-ordination and help you relax.
